The Chosen Woman
The figure hanging above the door frame is not a source of danger, but just an optical illusion.
If Ledger hadn't experienced countless crises in the past few years, he would probably have focused all his energy on this figure and then killed him.
Now he understands very well that this ghostly figure is more like a bait for fishing, waiting to see who takes the bait.
Ledger dared not be careless at all, holding his breath and focusing his attention on the changes around him, with almost every hair on his body standing on end.
Outside the door, it seemed like someone was about to come.
Ledger had a sense of crisis - he quickly glanced around, realizing there was nowhere to hide in the ancestral hall.
Suddenly, a faint glimmer flashed before his eyes, and it seemed like there was space beneath the stone book's pedestal. Ledger did not hesitate. Although he couldn't be certain if it was safe under the stone seat, he felt it was much better than the people who were about to come outside.
Ledger swiftly entered the stone book pedestal, while taking out the concealment treasure he had obtained during his training, shielding his own aura.
What he didn't know was that a layer of dim light had quietly enveloped the base of the stone book, completely concealing his presence.
Just as the ledger had been hidden, someone came in from outside.
"Strange... No one?" The person's voice was deep, as if deliberately lowering it, so that no one could recognize who he was.
But it could still be heard that it was a male voice.
The man seemed to have just glanced and then left.
It was very quiet outside.
Ledger hid beneath the stone book pedestal, trying even harder to hold his breath, not daring to relax even the slightest bit.
He didn't believe that person had left.
If that person really felt that there was someone here, it would be impossible for them to deliberately say, "Strange... no one?" and then leave.
Secondly, the stone book was right in front of him. Normally, when people see a stone tablet or a book or a scroll with records, they would instinctively take a glance.
If that person had seen the stone book, it would have been impossible for them to remain indifferent, let alone walk away so quickly.
This indicates that he is either still outside now, deliberately making noise to pretend that he has left.
Either way, that person had arrived here one step ahead of him and had already known the contents written on the stone book.
Ledger leaned towards the former, feeling that this person had followed his trail.
Sure enough, as Ledger was pondering these thoughts, the base of the stone book in front of him suddenly creaked and cracked, indicating that someone outside was moving the base!
Ledger's face stiffened.
If he lifted the base, he would definitely discover him hiding underneath!
Ledger, this time, not only stopped breathing, but also dared not blink his eyes. He even reversed the lunar power in his body, trying his best to suppress the sound of his heartbeat to a state where it was almost non-existent!
The stone pedestal was being lifted halfway up, and Ledger, squatting on the ground, felt a sinking feeling in his heart, thinking that he had been discovered and was in a life-or-death situation.
However, strangely enough, the person lifted the base halfway but then stopped, only raising their hand to tap the bottom.
Ledger just realized that the base was actually solid?!
No, if it was solid, how did he manage to hide inside?
Without thinking too much, the person's hand pressed down on the stone base, and in an instant, a dark purple light flashed and struck!
Ledger felt a tightness in his chest, as if a heavy weight was pressing down on him. The energy within his body surged and roiled like a raging river, almost causing him to spew out a mouthful of blood. However, he managed to forcefully suppress it, even to the point where his heartbeat approached nonexistence.
After the dark purple glow had faded, the person seemed to finally feel safe. They then slightly bent over and glanced down below.
Ledger saw a blurry face.
The reason for the blur was that he deliberately used magic to obscure his appearance, except for a pair of clear and visible eyes.
This person was even more cautious than oneself.
Ledger saw the confusion in the man's eyes, and he seemed to furrow his brows. Then, he put the base down.
The moment the stone pedestal was placed, Ledger, who had almost suffocated himself, dared not to breathe.
What on earth happened? Why could that person see in, but he could see him, while the other person couldn't see him?
After waiting for about fifteen minutes, the person standing in front of the stone book suddenly sneered, their voice coldly saying, "Three people enter the cycle... traitor?"
"Four people protected the ignorant younger generation, who were seeking a path to self-destruction and ruining their future. However, those who were unwilling to compromise became traitors?"
With a loud bang, the stone book was flipped to another page, as if it had also been shattered.
The more that person looked, the more irritated he became. Before long, he swung his sleeves and left for real.
Ledger dared not move until the sense of danger subsided a little, and then cautiously revealed a... cellphone.
The phone opened the camera, and Ledger saw from the screen that there was indeed no one there, so he quickly came out.
At this moment, he still dared not take a breath, his heartbeat was at its lowest.
Unbeknownst to him, he had just finished a battle with that person. Ledger was drenched from head to toe, as if he had been pulled out of the water, with sweat soaking his entire body, leaving him completely damp.
